We absolutely loved our stay. The villa itself is perfect: so full of character, the most gorgeous pool, beautiful garden and amazing sound system (!). But really we loved it because of YOU! You made our holiday so wonderful. Your delicious breakfast, all so carefully prepared, all of your funny stories, the incredible efforts you went to to get us the best tables in the best restaurants in the best towns, your help sourcing the best local cheese, wine and olive oil. We left with so many Umbrian treasures, maps, useful information, photos, and those incredible figs on their special golden tray! We think of you every day when we use Dante’s wonderful olive oil (…we’re getting younger by the day, I swear).

THANK YOU for having us. Grazie mille! We loved it, and we really hope we will be back again soon (not least to top up our larder!).

Lots of love, Ralph and Sophie xx

Dear Margherita

Thank you for a real wonderful stay in Villa Metato. We enjoyed it from the first moment – thanks to your kindness, warm welcome and the lovely house.

Sille, our 9 years old daughter, is missing the pool and your friendly cat, Baldo J . And her parents misses the piece, the ambience, the view, the pool, the surroundings, the beautiful decorated house  and the relaxed feeling which Villa Metato offers.

Back in Denmark we are looking at the pictures from our stay in order to "recall” all the good memories and the wonderful feeling.

We will definitely come back.

 Kind regards

Pure relaxation

It was a wonderful and relaxing Holiday. Margherita is so nice and she makes a great service. The villa has a great view of the Umbrian countryside and the large pool for sole use is just fantastic. The homemade wine is delicious. Time passed much too fast and the farewell was difficult for us. We felt so well that we will definitely come back!!! Grazie mille Margherita!

Hi Margherita,

how are you? It's all ready been a week now, since we left you and your beautiful Metato. We miss it, but unfortunately holidays end and I had to go to work again. I promissed to email you, so you can use some of it at your website. Normally I don't write comments, but I will make an exception for you.

You are a wonderful, warm and caring hostess, and you made us feel very welcome and at home in your little paradise. You've made your very stylish villa Metato really feel like a home. It's that, and the little things like the fresh flowers, the candles, the bath robes and you looking every day to see if we need anything, that made our stay perfect .

The swimming pool, the different places to sit and eat in the sun or shadow, the outdoor shower en the lovely garden were lovely. We love our little talks when we met in the garden.

You and Villa Metato in beautiful Umbria will stay in our hearts for ever and we absolutely come back to you.

Thank you so much for you care and kindness!

Love and a big baci,

Renate & Simon

Dear Margherita -

Just a note to thank you for giving us all such a lovely time at Villa Metato.

It was as lovely as we remembered and Charlie had such a great time.

Tonight I gave him a present of a toy submarine for the bath and I said ‘do you know who this is from ?’ (it was from his Grandma) and he said ‘Margherita ??’ !!

So he has lovely memories of you !

very best and hope to see you again soon -

So many thanks for our wonderful stay in Villa Metato!  You were so welcoming and we would have been lost without your kind advice every evening for restaurants!  We loved Umbrian cooking!

The Villa is a pearl!  We loved the secluded aspect of the Villa and enjoyed the silence to "chill out" as the Young say!  Calm and siestas were perfect to recuperate after the year of work behind us!

I can see why you are so booked!!!  May they all enjoy this haven of peace as we did!  And your breakfasts are wonderful, home made jam!!!!

You are fabulous hostess and a beautiful person.

May all your future visitors to the Villa love it as much as we did!  Again many thanks!

Grazie Margherita !

Hi Margi,

Hope this is ok!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay in Villa Morra. The host was amazing and so helpful and friendly and prepared us a lovely breakfast each morning, as well as helping us to book restaurants and suggest local places to visit. The villa itself was spacious and stylish. The pool was fantastic and outside space was extremely peaceful and relaxing. We would highly recommend others to book and will hopefully return there again ourselves in the future!

We stayed here for the first few days of our honeymoon in September and it was exactly what we had hoped for. Peaceful, quiet and Margherita's friendly welcome is superb. Breakfast served next to the lovely salt water pool was divine. Homemade jams, lots of fresh fruit (home grown where possible!) and great coffee. The villa was great, very large for two people. Yes, the spiral stairs down to the ground floor weren't ideal, but you can go down on the outside and we didn't find them a problem. The shower/bathroom was perfectly adequate as was the kitchen. We used the bbq outside the back and enjoyed the outside table for dinner. The location is superb, nothing quite like drinking metato rose wine next to the vines! You definitely need a car; we hired one in Arezzo which was no hassle, and the drive was about an hour. Make sure you get clear directions to the villa, we got a bit lost and the driveway up is pretty steep and rough so be prepared! The salt water pool was much better than expected (not really all that salty!) and a choice of no less than 5 pairs of chairs next to the pool to relax on! There is also sky tele and a selection of books and DVDs to enjoy and a great denon hifi you can connect an iPod to. Wifi was a bit patchy (fine outside by the pool) but then we didn't come here to stay connected with the world. It was great to find somewhere so lovely that we could book for just 3 days (enough relaxing time for us!) and not need to have for a whole week. We hope to be back one day...

For those looking for a special place in Umbria, Villa Metato is the best choice. Great interior, lovely pool and romantic garden. And most impotant your perfect host Margherita, delicious breakfast, the best dinner suggestions and always a nice chat. Come and visit, a place to remember.

Our stay at Villa Metato could not have been more perfect, the peace and tranquility of the surroundings mixed with the quality and comfort in the house, gave us the honeymoon that we had dreamt about.  Margherita was a lovely and amazing host, making us feel at home straight away, bringing a gorgeous fresh breakfast every morning by the pool and making sure the villa was immaculate throughout our stay as well as helping with ideas of places to visit; we could not have asked for more. It was so so difficult to leave (can we move in?!) but we can't wait to be able to come back and stay again very soon.

If you are looking for a secluded place where you want to escape the stress of everyday life and live at your own rythm, then Villa Metato is the ideal place. Ideally located between Arezzo and Perugia, you have the opportunity to visit some of the nicest Italian renaissance and Medieval Cities. However, if you do not feel like visiting the Umbrian or Tuscan countryside, you can still enjoy the Villa's relaxing pool and garden.

Villa Metato is wonderfully hosted by Margherita, who serves a very good breakfast every morning by the pool, with fresh fruits, some of them directly from the garden.
The co-host is Baldo (equally wonderful), the Garfield-like cat of the house who will pay a visit every now and then (if you like cats) in search for some cuddling.
Margherita will also book restaurants for you if you don't feel like cooking your own food in the evenings, and make sure you do not need anything, without ever being invasive.

So do not hesitate, stay at Villa Metato.

We’ve just returned from our second visit to Villa Metato…. and we rarely go back to a holiday location! Everything was as we remembered, a peaceful location, large inviting pool, an eclectically furnished villa, and a wonderful welcome from the owners.

“Paradise for individualists, honeymooners und connoisseurs !!!”

30 June 2015

First the VERY SMALL problems: rough access road, not ideal for low
lying cars with spoilers ... and a narrow spiral staircase between the
two floors.

But that's it ... otherwise Villa Metato is PURE HEAVEN!
It's worth reading the website before booking in order to fully
appreciate the host's fascinating personality and background
...Margherita really is an incredibly warm, hearty and cheerful
character - she made our stay so special!!!

The salt water pool
is a dream, the interior with it's stylish details is a fiest for the
eyes ... and the lovingly served breakfast at the pool makes every
morning a gourmet event. And every evening she booked a different
restaurant for us, with directions included - bravo!

So, to put it short ... Vill Metato is:

PERFECT
for couples who look for intimacy, something really apart from the rest
of the world, who know to appreciate art, furniture, style and
laissez-faire ...

ABSOLUTELY NOT for nouveau riches used to be
pampered by humble servants and looking for 5 star service, air
condition and big hotel chain standard.

Villa Metato is a gem, a jewel ... and should be recommended to all close friends.
We'll keep it with Schwarzenegger: WE'LL BE BACK !!!

Grazie Mille, Margherita, for all and everything ... mille baci !!!

Dear Margherita,
We are very well thank you, and had a lovely time in Perugia. It’s a really beautiful city, and we continued to eat and drink very well! We arrived back in China last week, and are starting to settle back in to life here, although it is very different to the summer we had back home and in Umbria! Have you listened to any of Chris’ musical recommendations? When we play that same music now, it reminds us of the lazy days by the pool!
We hope you are all well, here is our review of your wonderful villa.
Love Victoria and Chris

Margherita and Nick, thank you for a wonderful start to our honeymoon in Umbria, Villa Metato was the perfect hideaway retreat for us! From first contact Margherita couldn’t have been more helpful and efficient, and this continued throughout our stay. We chose not to hire a car, so Margherita arranged transport to and from the local train stations for us, and did a grocery shop so that we had everything we needed during our time at the villa. As such we can’t really talk about local amenities, but can say that the villa, especially the kitchen, is very well equipped! We were given a very warm welcome and made to feel completely at home during our stay by Margherita and Nick. The villa is spacious and immaculate with very eclectic décor, and has an amazing sound system throughout (including the bathroom!) which we loved. Outside, the pool and terrace areas are maintained to the same high standards and are very private. The villa is in a beautiful location, with gorgeous views from the poolside area, and scenic walks to the local village. Personal touches and produce from the grounds (including wine, fresh fruit and veg, and preserves) made the stay all the more special. We were sorry to leave the villa and such wonderful hosts, we could have happily stayed a lot longer!

We stared our 2 weeks holiday in Umbria with 1 week at Villa Metato. It is a lovely small house with a very stylish interior, perfect for 2 people with a nice pool in a well-tended garden. It's a perfect place to clam down, to relax and to enjoy the Umbrian summer in high level privacy. We were perfectly sheparded by Margherita who served us every morning breakfast at the pool. She as well had a lot of great recommendations for restaurants and trips to explore the Umbrian countryside and the Umbrian cuisine. We enjoyed our stay very much and can recommend Villa Metato absolutely.

We are home again………Terrible weather, much to cold and a lot of rain. But still heaving the beautiful memory of you house and warm welcome.
Hereby a little review.
Thank for everything, Derk& Annet van der Woude
We spent  a wonderful week nestled on a hillside in Umbria nearby Morra.
In the morning we were with fantastic breakfast by the  pool spoilt by Margherita.
And in the evening we went to restaurants nearby to enjoy the beautiful local produce.
And nothing else;  just fantastic
Slowing down was it for us. Sitting, sun, reading and sometimes dozing. Dolce far niente

A perfect retreat for our first holiday as a family - nothing was too much trouble for Margherita. It was the little details that really made the difference and allowed us to switch off completely and forget all responsibilities: shopping for our first meal awaiting our arrival, breakfast served very discretely every morning, Margherita even went and collected our buggy which had been misplaced by the airline. That said, once the gate to the villa is closed, it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, no neighbours anywhere -paradise! I would wholeheartedly recommend VIlla Metato to couples with a baby, we had a wonderful time.

Bisous,

Frances

"We had a lovely week at Villa Metato. It was our first holiday with our baby (11 weeks old at the time) and Margherita, Nick and Marcello couldn't do enough to help us feel happy and relaxed. The villa is really beautiful with gorgeous retro furniture, great bits of art and everything you could want media wise. The location is stunning, serene ancient woodland ready to explore. The delicious breakfast every morning meant for an easy start to the day. This included fresh fruit that Margherita had grown, homemade jam and juice, amongst other things. But the kitchen is well equipped and included cupboard essentials which made cooking up a meal an easy and cheap option. The local area is really green and there are some great driving routes. We particularly enjoyed our trips to Assasi and the mountain roads to Lake Trasimeno. The weather wasn't great all week (after weeks of heatwave so I hear) so we did spend a couple of days cosied up in the villa which was still great with lots to entertain us. Overall, I would definitely recommend for a relaxing Italian holiday away from the crowds of tourists. An excellent place with wonderful hosts, very child friendly and great value for money.”

"Loved the owners Margherita & Nick, they were superb hosts. Loved their invaluable advice on where to go in the area, from a local ristorante only a ten minute drive away to a lunch trip to nearby Cortona. They will book you tables which is great. They're so helpful and warm, great company if you want to hang out and chat. This is more a combination of a b&b combined with a villa, as they live in the house next door. They are always accessible to help you out with advice, and Margherita often potters around watering plants and tidying up to ensure the poolside is lovely for you the next day etc. Breakfast is simple. Cereal from a small selection. Fresh local fruits. Fresh squeezed OJ, and toast with home made fig jam. It's a perfect retreat in the middle of almost nowhere. The house is a fantastic size for a couple. It's not super luxury (the kitchen and bathroom do the trick but are quite old), but is very cool, stylish and comfortable with an amazing furniture collection. The price is good value. Not a place to go without a car. And the roads are windy and steep...the road up to their house is gravelly and steep so make sure you don't have the tiniest hire car!”

"Beautiful villa in a lovely area of Umbria, really is a 'hip hideaway'. Nick and Margherita were great hosts, attentive yet discreet. This really was the the peaceful retreat away we required, and they made our 10 yr old feel very welcome with a big selection of dvd's and games. The pool was amazing and breakfast every morning was the perfect start to the day. Would definitely return.”

"What a find! A perfect relaxing break - the villa is absolutely lovely - every bit as good as we'd hoped. Hidden away in the Umbrian hills on the border with Tuscany. Delicious breakfasts by the pool everyday, tips on what to do and where to eat from Margherita, interesting places to visit Citta di Castello, Gubbio, Cortona to name a few. Romantic evenings by the pool with magical fireflies in the wood at night. Margherita and Nick were excellent hosts and almost felt like old friends by the end of the week - we really didn't want to leave.”

13 June 2013

My new wife and I arrived late on a Monday night at the end of May in our little Fiat (perfectly fine for reaching the house if you keep it in 1st gear!) and were greeted by owner Nick. Feeling somewhat tired and emotional after the rollercoaster ride that was the wedding we were immediately offered a cold glass of prosecco and welcomed into Nick and Margherita's house like old friend's. As it was late, Nick insisted in preparing something for us to eat but despite our protests to the contrary he proceeded to rustle up a lovely pasta dish and sent us on our way to the Villa with a bottle of the local red wine!

The Villa itself is an amazing place, decorated with some unique art and featuring retro furniture and accessories, the open plan nature of the upstairs section is in itself a welcome change to the boring standard hotel setup most of us are used to. With a state of the art tv/stereo/dvd player to combat the unseasonable rain storms we were able to relax in complete comfort and privacy. As the temperature was in the low teens in the evenings, Margherita and Nick made sure the log burner was fired up and the wood piled high.

The upstairs floor leads down to the kitchen area (which is also large) and there is a nicely appointed bathroom with a great shower (and a washing machine if you need it!). The spiral staircase down to the lower floor is very narrow but it adds to the character of the villa. If you are of a larger build it may be a little bit of a squeeze.

As an avid swimmer I braved the chill of the pool on a number of occasions and dreamed longingly of hot summer days. We want to go back just to be able to lie out beside your own private pool on a warm day!

Two of the nights we barbequed. We bought everything we needed in Trestina which is about 20 minutes away by car. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the necessary utensils etc and the barbeque area looks out over the hills. Margherita and Nick will happily suggest restaurants in the area and there is a small pizzeria nearby if you aren't barbeque inclined.

Each morning Margherita prepares a delicious, healthy breakfast with fruit, cereal, toast, homemade jams and coffee. The perfect start to the day. Unfortunately we were only able to eat once by the pool due to the weather.

Villa Metato is a very special place, the perfect retreat (our phones didn't work for example). I cannot recommend it highly enough. There are lots of interesting towns to visit in the region but if you simply want to chillout in front of the tv with a class of wine or by the pool in good weather then this is the spot.

We left reluctantly with a list of places and restaurants to visit during the remainder of our honeymoon and feeling like we had made some new friends.
