Welcome to Villa Metato.
We are an Italian registered family run business in Umbria on the border with Tuscany. Our guesthouse offers a unique and relaxing environment for those of you who appreciates contemporary art, who want to escape from the daily grind, who revel in the opportunity in immersing themselves in the stunningly beautiful unspoilt Umbrian countryside and who want a little TLC. We might not be for everyone! We have a large cat called Baldo, which, except for his markings is Garfield! Given half the chance he will eat almost everything, including Lasagne. A mad springer spaniel called Spot who will follow you everywhere and is the most affectionate canine you will ever wish to meet. Baldo is free range but will not enter the guesthouse. Spot has also been trained not to enter and has his own accommodation. He will not bother you but is a great companion on walks and knows his way home just incase you get lost.
Margherita, my wife, runs our little business as I’m working most days. She makes a yummy breakfast of homemade jams, fresh bread and fruit. We try to purchase everything locally. This is a very rural area so don’t expect to get radiated strawberries. We eat what’s in season like everyone did before ready meals ruined our taste buds.
The guesthouse is over two floors with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and bathroom on the ground floor. There are double doors which lead out to an al fresco eating area and a BBQ. From the ground floor there’s a spiral staircase to the open plan bedroom and living room. The total area is approximately 120sqm. There are two double doors from the first floor that opens onto the terrace and private pool. This is 9m x 5m and has a black liner. The pool has a salt water filter system as we hate chlorine. We have wifi all around the villa and grounds, there’s a 42” flat screen TV with DVD, Sky and surround sound, that should keep you entertained. Heating is via convection heaters and a wood burning stove neither of which you should need as the average temperature are in the late 20’s, early 30’s. Outside is a Bocce court and table tennis. We have dutch style bikes and a selection of motocross. We can arrange Pilates, a massage and yoga lessons. Further afield, horse riding and trekking around the hills, sailing on Lake Trasimeno, private Italian cooking lessons, wine tasting, vineyard and sightseeing tours. Whatever your tipple we’re sure to be able to make your stay with us a memorable one. If on the other hand you just want to disappear then you have found the right place.
Note: The connection from the ground floor to the first is via a spiral staircase and therefore unfortunately we do cater for those of you that may have a disability. Please email or call for further information prior to booking.
There is a possibility of a private chef, which is me, but you will need to book in advance. Everybody tells me I’m a good cook and to date nothing has been return. I cook simple Italian food, fresh and tasty with lashing of first press virgin olive oil, served with good italian wine. Less is more, is always my motto.
Our guesthouse only really caters for two but we do have extra beds for little ones, just in case. On average we get many honeymooners and couples that just want to hang out and relax.
